Wike’s Rep Resigns From Obio/Akpor Legislature, Declares Support For Fubara

The Councillor representing Ward 9 in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr Achor Nna, has resigned his position both as the Leader and member of the Legislative Council.

The former governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is from the same ward.

Nna resigned in a letter dated March 7, 2024 and addressed to the Clerk of the House, Mrs Rosemary Brown.

In the letter, which went viral, Nna declared support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who had seen serious attempts by Wike’s loyalists in the state House of Assembly to impeach him on October 30, 2023.

Following the failed impeachment, a protracted political crisis had ensued, with Wike threatening fire and brimstone, while cronies have done everything within their powers to scuttle the administration of Fubara.

On December 18, President Bola Tinubu midwifed a lopsided peace deal, which the governor accepted, and has been implementing, except only one line item: budget representation.

The letter read in part: "This resignation is borne out of my personal conviction to align with the truth in the face of the current political issues in Rivers’’.

He attributed his action to “unwarranted intimidation, marginalisation, coercion, bullying and arm-twisting from the leaders of the Obio/Akpor Local Government.

“I want to align with the progressive minds to liberate and develop Rivers. Let it be known that this resignation will never negate my earlier resolve to work in consonance with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

Sir,

LETTER OF RESIGNATION AS LEADER, OBIO/AKPOR 9TH LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL AND AS A COUNCILOR REPRESENTING WARD 9 (RUMU-EPIRIKOM AND ELIOPARANWO)

Let me begin by thanking the leadership and good people of Ward 9 in particular and Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in general for this great opportunity to serve as the Leader of our dear Local Government legislative Council.

Permit me to also thank specifically His Excellency, Chief Barr E. N. Wike, GSSRS, POS AFRICA, LIFE BENCHER (the Minister of FCT) for primarily giving me the opportunity to represent him as a councilor in his ward before ascending to the position of the Leader of the Legislative Council.

Having said this Mr Chairman, may I most respectfully inform you hereunder that I have by this notice resigned my position as the Leader of Obio/Akpor Legislative Council and as a councilor representing the good people of Ward 9.

This resignation is hitherto born out of my personal conviction to align with the truth in the face of the current political issues in Rivers State coupled with the unwarranted intimidation, marginalization, coercion, bullying and arm-twisting from some Leaders of Obio/Akpor Local Government.

Senator Dino Melaye once said, "if you say the truth, you die, if you lie, you die. Better to say the truth and die". My Chairman, I want to align with the progressive minds to liberate and develop Rivers State in tune with the SIMplified Movement.

Let it be known that this resignation will never negate my earlier resolve to work in consonance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's RENEWED HOPE agenda. I will support the State Government in any way to earth the dreams of Mr President as well as entrench and engender peace, development and empowerment to Rivers people.

Once again, I remain so grateful to the leadership and people of Ward 9.
