LG, NYCN Chairmen Restate Support For Fubara, Hail Ehie's Election As Rivers Assembly Speaker


The Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Dr Enyiada Cookey-Gam, and the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb Chijioke Ihunwo, have restated their support to the state Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the new Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Edison Ehie, in their efforts to deliver good governance to the people of the state.

The duo also congratulated Ehie on his emergence as the authentic speaker of the state House of Assembly after the impeachment of the former speaker, Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule, by 26 members of the House on Monday, October 30, 2023.

In their separate statements made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, Cookey-Gam and Ihunwo said that the time has come for lawmakers in the state Assembly to give peace a chance, and find ways to work together in the interest of the state.

They accused detractors of spreading disaffection and discord among members of the Assembly and Peoples Democratic Party faithful, including the former governor and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike and his loyalists.

.Declares Total Support For Gov, Congratulates New Speaker Of Rivers State House Of Assembly

The Executive Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Rt Hon (Dr) Enyiada Cookey-Gam  DSSRS Balolo of Opobo has reaffirmed his total support for the executive governor of Rivers State His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara  GSSRS, This he said is essentially to disabuse the minds of rumour mongers who are bent on peddling fake news about his support.

He briefed the press shortly after the emergence of the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ehie Edison  who was elected by 23 Assembly members.

Enyiada commended the swift move by reasonable lawmakers and rising to the occasion with the election of Hon Edison as Speaker.

He congratulated the new Speaker, urging him to succeed in his new office.

He reiterated his unalloyed loyalty to the governor, urging detractors to avoid him forthwith.

Ehie Edison on his emergence as the new Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, urging him to give his best in providing leadership.

The chairman rejoices with the Speaker for his maturity and stability in handling legislative matters over the years, and significant role he played in stimulating discussions on the floor of the House.

The number one youth leader in Rivers State believes the Rt. Hon. Ehie Edison will further improve relationship between the Legislature and the Executive, and provide more opportunities for the growth of Rivers youths.

2023: Nigeria Ranks Low, As IMF Names Countries With Highest Debt

The 2023 World Economic Outlook of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has named the countries with highest debt – Sudan 256 per cent, Japan 255 percent, and Greece 168 percent. According to the October index posted by Statisence X handle, while Nigeria has 39 percent, and China 83 percent, the U. S. has 123 percent and United Kingdom 104 percent. The above data shows that Argentina tops the list of 12 highest IMF debt burden with $44,433,379; followed by Egypt at $12, 521, 322,333; Ukraine $11,588,182,405; and China $9, 674,159, 560. FG Begins Payment Of Health Workers’ Salary Arrears

The Federal Government has commenced payment of the salary arrears to health workers under the expanded midwives service scheme. The development followed the report that the Federal Government, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and Sydani Group owed doctors, nurses, midwives, and community health extension workers under the scheme four-month salary arrears.
