Let Fubara Breath, Ex-Rivers Gov, Elders Caution Wike, Loyalists


A former Rivers State Governor, Chief Rufus Ada-George and some leaders of Rivers Elders Council, have called on the former governor of the state and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, and his cronies in the state House of Assembly, to let Governor Siminalayi Fubara breath and allow peace to reign in the state.

In separate statements on Monday, October 30, in Port Harcourt, Ada-George and the elders warned that the political infighting by Wike and his loyalists against Fubara for standing on the path of honour, service and integrity while striving to deliver the dividends of democracy to Rivers people, was the highest level of disservice to the state.

Those who digned on behalf of the elders include, Chief Henry Aguma, Chief Mike Lube, Hon.Ben Ikenza, Mazi Chituru, Comrade Tom Odum, Elder Kinika Aholu, and Elder Emma Owhurodu.

In his statement, titled: "A CALL FOR PEACE IN RIVERS STATE", Ada-George said, "I have observed, with dismay, the brewing political tension in our dear Rivers State since the early hours of this morning involving amongst others, the hallowed chambers of the State House of Assembly. 

"While I understand that such developments are commonplace among the political class, it is my considered view that they are not beyond amicable resolution. 

"As an elder statesman, I hereby sue for peace even as I enjoin the dramatis personae to seek a quick resolution of the crisis, which, if not checked with the urgency it deserves, has the capacity to precipitate violence of unimaginable consequences. 

"I, therefore, call on all the actors of the unfolding drama to sheath their swords with a view to putting to rest their perceived differences. 

"I also urge the police and other security agencies to deploy men and officers to the flashpoints to maintain the peace. 

"Let's not allow our state to boil and become an epicenter of political crisis. Together, we can achieve this."

Similarly, in their statement titled, "LET THE GOVERNOR BREATH", the Rivers Elders Council said, "The attention of the Rivers Elders Council has been drawn to the skirmishes by some anti Democratic forces to throw Rivers State into political quagmire because of the refusal of his excellency Sir Sim Fubara to mortgage the state.

"We solidly stand by his excellency Sir Sim in this hour of patriotism and statesmanship.

"We implore them to allow the excellency breath and to perform his duties without fear or intimidation."

The 2023 World Economic Outlook of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has named the countries with highest debt – Sudan 256 per cent, Japan 255 percent, and Greece 168 percent. 2023 Census: We Won’t Ask Questions On Religion  –NPC By Editor  Ahead of the commencement of the 2023 census, the National Population Commission (NPC) on Wednesday said it will not ask questions on religious affiliation. In a statement on Wednesday by the Director of Public Affairs, Isiaka Yahaya, the commission said the decision to exclude religion along with ethnicity from the census questionnaire was taken in consideration of the sensitive nature of these issues within the Nigerian polity.
