Fubara, Rivers Elders Meet In Abuja Over Crisis

                   

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and some elders in the state, on Tuesday, met in Abuja. 

The meeting was for a possible reconciliation of the crisis that rocked the State House of Assembly and the move to impeach the governor.

Recall that some elders of the state held a closed-door meeting with Fubara in Government House on Monday evening.

The elders were at the brick house, the governor’s official residence to reconcile the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his political godson, Fubara.

Those in attendance on Monday include the Chairman, of Rivers Elders Forum, Chief Ferdinand Anabraba; former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Chief Onueze Okocha, SAN; the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council, Chief Ohia Sergent Awuse; the former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Felix Obuah; a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ken Chikere; among others.

The outcome of the meeting with the governor which dragged into the night was not disclosed.

But on Tuesday morning, it was gathered that some of the elders met the governor again, and all of them proceeded to the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in the Ikwerre Local Government Area, where they flew to Abuja.

A close source in the State Government House media unit, confirmed the governor’s trip to Abuja on Tuesday morning.

Nigeria Lost N16.25trn To Oil Theft, NEITI Alleges

The Executive Secretary of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Ogbonnaya Orji, has revealed that Nigeria lost over N16.25trillion due to oil theft in the country. Orji, who made the revelation to the House Committee on Public Accounts, during an interactive session in Abuja, also claimed that $74.386billion was spent on fuel subsidy by successive administrations since 2011. According to him, the agency has compiled the actual amount paid as subsidy on yearly basis.  Orji claimed that the compilation was based on data collated and signed off by operators in the industry and other stakeholders. Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that the decisions taken by his administration in the evolving political crisis in the state were not borne out of fear, but for peace to reign in the state. The governor made this known while addressing Rivers people at the maiden state banquet held by his administration at Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday to celebrate the New Year.
